Exploring Cairo's Contemporary Architectural Identity:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 In Cairo, a common issue stands out: in our opinion, our present architecture often lacks a distinct identity. Many buildings don’t reflect who we are today. Instead, they echo the past, mimic other cultures, or worse, aren't based on any identity. We believe it’s time for a change. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 Our goal is to create a contemporary architectural identity that truly feels like Cairo. We want to represent the present, not past eras or foreign influences. Being modern shouldn’t mean imitating others. We can be contemporary in our own unique way. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 01-Color Scheme: • 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀: Light colors help reduce heat inside buildings, which is crucial for Cairo’s hot climate. • 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: These colors reflect the natural hues of our desert environment. 02-Mashrabiyas: • 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Contemporary versions of traditional mashrabiyas on large windows. • 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Combines privacy with a welcoming atmosphere, honoring Egyptian architectural heritage. 03-Textiles on Facades: Inspired by Ancient Egyptian Clothing: Textiles mimic the flowing, dynamic nature of ancient garments. (Reference photo for illustration.) https://lnkd.in/dmKJW8kV • 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗔𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰: Adds movement and a gentle look to the façade, enhancing the building's identity. • 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Textiles are easy to manufacture, install, remove, replace, and clean, making them a practical choice for modern architecture. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀? Textiles were chosen after exploring various options. They stood out for several reasons: • 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Their interaction with the wind creates a lively facade. • 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹: Contributes to a distinct, inviting identity. • 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝘀𝗲: Textiles are easy to handle, from manufacturing to cleaning, making them an efficient and sustainable option. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 This design approach is a work in progress. We are pioneering a new era of Egyptian architectural identity. It’s about time Cairo’s buildings reflect who we are today, with a contemporary yet uniquely Egyptian essence. Let’s celebrate our heritage while embracing the future.
